Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! It’s been a little while since I last used Mama Elephant stamps, but it’s only because I was trying to save some money. It’s just so difficult when every one of their releases is just so irresistible that I struggle every month. But I couldn’t hold back any longer when I saw these killer whales that share the same illustration type as my all time favorite Arctic Penguins.
What actually really drew me in was actually the wave in the stamp set. It really reminded me of Chinese/Japanese art and I really wanted to create some cards with that look. So today is my first idea using those waves to frame this adorable killer whale jumping out of the water.
I colored each individual wave with copic markers with gradient shades of blue to create that interest in the wave pattern. There are a total of 6 pieces. I then penciled in a circle on a piece of watercolor to help me frame my scene, and then mask off the area to create my ocean waves. I used the ocean wave trio creative cuts to create a stencil. So there’s 2 masks. The ocean waves were blended with Salty Ocean and Chipped Sapphire distress inks.
It is pretty important this time around to use distress inks for the ocean water because I wanted to utilize the bleached looking areas as bubbles. I intentionally distress more of the ink below where the killer whale is placed to make it look like that it accelerated out of the water. The bubbles makes it look like we caught the picture in action!
After the scene is done, I can now glue down all the curly wave pieces. I put down a small glue dot with my medium matte for one end and lifted the other end with a small piece of foam tape. From the side view, you can see the layering that I created.
I finished the card with a sentiment stamped in black Versafine ink below the scene and also used the same wave stamp to stamp some light background around the corners of the card. This added a little more interest and an even more Asian Art feel to it.
And that completes the card! I still have a few ideas in mind I would like to revisit this stamp set with, but I may have to come back to it at another time. Until then! May this day and the following days be filled with wonderful moments. 🙂
Cheers,

Hehehe, I know the struggle. I really like the stamp set, too – the waves, the style, but I try to stay strong. You card doesn’t help with that! 😀
Your card is just so sweet!
