Combining Sets, Easy Stamping, One-Layer Birthday Card

The Mama Elephant Arctic Penguins is one of my favorite stamp sets, and you’ll see that I use it multiple times in several types of cards. They are not only absolutely adorable, but they are easy to manipulate into different occasions, as you have probably seen in my previous zombifying card for Halloween! But spending all that time with all the details may not always be ideal when you don’t have that much time, so I want to show you another simple way that I’ve used my penguins in a birthday card series!

In these series of cards, I use two stamp sets from Mama Elephant, the Arctic Penguins and Birthday Wishes. This birthday set has some of the funniest sentiments, and what better way than to have your penguins send them out!

I started out with the birthday candles first, and picked a random colored stamp pad from my supplies. Here I’m using Hero Arts Dusty Blue Dye Ink Stamp Pad, but really any color will work. I wanted the cards to be whimsical so I didn’t want to have a methodical color pattern or perfectly even candlesticks. So you see with my first color, I randomly spaced out the candles and intentionally planted some slanted. The only planning involved before you go ahead and stamp the remaining candles, is where you want to plant your penguins so that you mask appropriately before finishing up the card.

For this card, I knew I wanted to use the sentiment “I’ve already alerted the fire department” so I had these little penguins looks like they are running away by stamping them in directions towards the ends of the cards. I have my masks ready to go and after stamping down those penguins, I masked those areas and finished stamping my candles in random bright colors.

Afterwards, I went back and stamped the candle fire for all the candles and then the wick in black. Be gentle when stamping the wick! The stamp is really small, so you don’t want to put too much pressure down. After that, I stamped the sentiment in black ink to the middle top portion of the card. And as a finishing touch, I added some shine to the candle fire with Wing of Stella Clear (not very visible in the picture). And there you have it, a finished, cute and whimsical card!

I made 3 variations in total with the same 2 sets, and could definitely had made more versions if I wanted to. After all, you have 6 different sentiments to work with!
